Licorice root extract may be better known for its use with relieving stomach
pains and reducing fever but it is now being used as a home remedy for acne as well. As well as its anti-inflammatory properties, it can also assist in limiting the production of toxins in the body that contribute to acne breakouts.
Licorice root helps the skin repair itself, and since damaged skin is significantly more likely to fall victim to acne outbreaks, it only makes sense that this ancient cure all would assist in reducing the number of outbreaks the average acne sufferer has. Many people also use the licorice root in beverages, in cooking and in a mask-like paste that is applied directly to the skin, although the extract has shown to be the most effective in fighting skin problems.
When using licorice extract as a home remedy for acne it is important to consume only the right amount as excessive quantities can have some detrimental side effects such as lethargy and even paralysis. Like with any medication, it is always best to consult with a physician to discuss your treatment.
