Advances within the field of biotechnology and genetics have made DNA testing the most accurate means of determining relationships between individuals. Depending on the closeness of the biological relationship between two individuals, their DNA will show varying degrees of similarity between their DNA profiles. Most DNA tests will locate analogous genetic markers to establish the closeness of relationship between two or more individuals.

The Paternity DNA test is very much in demand and is used to determine the biological relationship between an alleged father and child. The test will exclude the possibility of paternity with 100% accuracy and conversely, determine whether the alleged individual is in fact the biological father with a probability of 99.99%.

A DNA test can now be done without the need for a medical blood draw. A home DNA kit can be bought from a number of companies specializing in DNA testing and done within the comfort of one’s own home. Normally, DNA sampling is done via a buccal (oral) swab taken from the inner cheeks of the mouth. The swabs are then sent back to the company which will send back the results of the DNA found on the swabs within the stipulated time frame.

Other forms of DNA testing are also popular including ancestry testing which locates one’s geogenetic heritage in different anthropological regions; forensic testing is used when it is not possible to take oral swabs, and thus alternative non-standard sampling methods, such as blood or hair, have to be taken; Also in demand is DNA profiling which is used to map one’s genetic blue print. Another common DNA test is DNA relationship testing, which is a means of testing the biological relationship between individuals such as aunts, grandparents or siblings.

Depending on the company, a number of other tests are available. A browse on the internet will yield a number of searches for DNA testing companies and their services.
